Cambridge Audio

Play it from the start

"Hey Jude", "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Born To Be Wild" were the soundtrack of 1968, the year Cambridge Audio launched with a belief that music should move you; since then, we have stood for one thing: music that is not background noise or ‘good enough’ but deserves better.

Iconic first track

Our debut release changed the face of home audio. Built in a garage by Cambridge graduates, the P40 was the first amplifier to use a toroidal transformer, now a gold standard in audio design. It set the tone for everything that followed.

Pushing the standard

Our pursuit of better sound never slowed. In 1971, the R50 transmission line speakers raised the bar for low distortion bass. In 1985, the CD1 became the world’s first two box CD player, splitting digital decoding for outstanding, precise sound.

A new chapter

In the early 1990s, a young entrepreneur with a passion for Hi-Fi saw potential in Cambridge Audio. James Johnson-Flint stepped in, built a small team, won awards and sparked the momentum that helped shape the brand we are today. He still leads us now.

SIX DECADES OF
